Insurance
Can I use my health insurance?
I dedicate a certain number of sessions per week to insurance-paying clients and lower income clients in need of a reduced fee.
It is important to note that treatment within network has pros and cons. Insurance plans may have high co-payments and offer a limited number of sessions, even with an in-network provider, and may restrict the type of therapy a client can receive. Please check to see if your plan offers out-of-network coverage for mental health treatment.
Read about the benefits of seeing an out-of-network provider here.
Out of Network Benefits:
If you are using your Out of Network benefits, I can help you submit behavioral health claims for direct reimbursement from your insurance plan.
Insurances I accept:
(Medicare Out-of-Network)
I use Headway to manage billing directly through insurance. For insurance-related questions, I recommend contacting your insurance network directly, or reaching out to Headway.
If your insurance isn't listed:
As recommended above, if you determine that your insurance plan includes Out of Network Care:
You can pay for the sessions upfront and I will provide you with a "Superbill" to submit with a reimbursement claim to your insurance network for a partial refund, and they'll send you a check. Generally reimbursements start after you've met your deductible.
Insurance is confusing!
Excerpt:
"Out-of-network coverage is usually a percentage of the insurance company’s 'allowed amount,' not the clinician’s actual charges. Let’s say your therapist charges $200 a session. If your coinsurance is 40 percent and your plan’s allowed amount per session is $175, then your plan would cover 60 percent of $175, not the full $200 rate... The good news is that if you have out-of-network benefits, Silberfeld says you can usually apply those costs to your out-of-network deductible. Sometimes... out-of-network benefits only cover certain types of therapy and mental health procedures, so make sure to check with your [insurance] provider to avoid surprises. "
If you still have questions, the customer service personnel at your insurance company can be quite helpful (the Member Services phone number on the back of your insurance card).
